Business / New food and drink tour looks to fill ‘gap in the market’

A NEW week-long tour offering a ‘taste of Shetland’ is being organised for next summer in what is thought to be the first of its kind locally.

The package holiday will showcase the wide array of local food and drink produced in Shetland.

People on the tour will be able to visit food and drink producers during the day and sample the goods later on at night.

Island Vista’s Jolene Garriock.

On the itinerary are visits to producers such as Uradale Farm, Transition Turriefield and the gin distillery in Unst, as well as a mussel farm and ‘Hensington Palace’ in Sullom.

The tour package will be based at Voe House, and in the evenings guests will be able to eat what they have seen earlier in the day, cooked up by professionals. There will also be visits to local restaurants.

It is set to take place in August 2025, and will feature more than 30 members of Taste of Shetland either as a venue or as a supplier.

Jolene Garriock of operator Island Vista said she was “really excited” to announce the tour.

“It is something that I have been thinking about for a while now and feel there is a definite gap in the market for it,” she said.

“Nobody has done something like this before so it will be something unique. Shetland has so many wonderful food and drink producers, when I originally started brainstorming the idea, I wasn’t sure if there would be enough to fill a whole week of touring but now, I could easily fill more than that.”

Taste of Shetland director Steve Mathieson said: “The whole board are delighted to be working with Jolene on this.

“It is something we have been keen to see happen for a long time, and we are so pleased that an experienced tour operator like Island Vista is taking this on.”

More information on the tour can be found online.
