Community / Coastguard’s festive fly-by spreads Christmas cheer
SANTA enjoyed a bird’s eye view of Shetland as he took a trip in the Sumburgh based coastguard helicopter in his usual Christmas Eve flyover.
The festive fellow took to the skies from Sumburgh shortly after 9am, flying over the south end before heading up Shetland’s west coast and back down the east.
People were able to track the flight on the Flightradar website, and at around 9.25am it was the fourth most followed flight in the world.
The crew were planning to do a second run in the afternoon but they were called out to Fetlar to assist with a medical transfer.
The helicopter has taken Santa on board every Christmas Eve for the last number of years, with folk advised to put their “eyes to the skies” for a look.
