Council / Sullom Voe tug sustains damage to her hull
ONE of Shetland Islands Council (SIC)’s Sullom Voe tug boats has been left with a hole in her bow after sustaining damage.
A spokesperson for the council confirmed this afternoon (Tuesday) that Dunter suffered the damage during an incident last week.
Repairs are now underway.
“Investigations are underway following an incident on Thursday 12 December which resulted in damage to the tug Dunter,” the spokesperson said.
“The vessel was involved in routine operations at Sullom Voe Terminal when the incident occurred.
“It resulted in a breach in the Dunter’s hull, above the waterline. There were no injuries, and no pollution as a result.
“The MAIB [Marine Accident Investigation Branch] has been informed, repairs have commenced today (Tuesday) and arrangements have been made for operational cover in the meantime, with no impact on terminal operations.”
The SIC has four tugs which service the Port of Sullom Voe, assisting oil tankers to berth.
