MORE than 130 UHI Shetland students enjoyed a pre-Christmas graduation at Mareel in Lerwick earlier today (Friday).

Due to demand, graduating students who completed their studies were spaced over two ceremonies.

They had studied a wide variety of subjects, from aquaculture and art to computing and health care.

UHI Shetland welcomed former SIC children’s services director Helen Budge, who delivered a speech on the importance of learning and skills.

Keith Massey, UHI Shetland’s student of the year, meanwhile gave a speech reflecting on his learning journey.

UHI dean of research and innovation Professor Derek McGhee joined UHI Shetland staff and students to celebrate their achievements.

UHI Shetland principal Professor Jane Lewis said: “Graduation is one of the highlights of the student journey – a fantastic opportunity for our hard-working students, who have put in many hours enhancing their skills and knowledge, to celebrate with their friends, family and colleagues.”
