SHETLAND Valkyries have been crowned league champions for a sixth successive year after thoroughly thrashing Inverness Craig Dunain.
The women’s rugby side made it half-a-dozen league trophies in a row with a 106-0 away day success on Saturday, lifting the league title after the match.
They have now won all seven of their league fixtures, and could complete a flawless campaign on Sunday at the Clickimin.
If they can beat Highland at home this weekend they will cap off another exceptional Tennent’s Caledonia North Region League 1 season with a perfect record.
They were recently nominated for team of the year at the Shetland Sports Awards, but lost out to the men’s rugby side.
Shetland’s men’s team were also in action at the weekend, slipping to a narrow defeat away from home.
They fell to a 17-12 defeat to Aberdeen Wanderers, who picked up their first win of the league season in the process.
The men’s rugby team have fallen to fifth in the league table following the defeat, but have four games in hand over league leaders Gordonians 2nd to make up ground at the top.
SPENCER Moreland scored a goal of the competition contender as his Brechin City side steamed into round four of the Scottish Cup.
With Brechin leading Cowdenbeath 2-1 in extra-time, a parried shot arrived at Moreland’s feet at the edge of the box with 10 minutes to play.
The midfielder, who grew up in Shetland, took a touch to set the ball into his path before looping a sensational volley over the keeper’s head to ensure safe passage to the next round.
Moreland and his Brechin team-mates will now excitedly await the fourth round draw tonight (Monday), with the 12 Scottish Premiership sides – including champions Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen – all joining the fray.

George Robesten and his Brora Rangers team-mates could not join Brechin in the draw, succumbing 2-0 to Championship high-flyers Livingston.
Robesten was a second-half substitute, coming on for the final 30 minutes, but was unable to make a goal-scoring contribution with Brora already trailing 2-0.
John Allan returned to the scoresheet with a goal as Turriff United thrashed Forres Mechanics.
The former Scalloway striker scored Turriff’s fifth goal as they came back from going a goal down in the second minute to win 6-1 away from home.
Lewis Harkness picked up the man of the match award for Golspie Sutherland in the North Caledonian league at the weekend, but his team were soundly beaten by league leaders Halkirk United.
Golspie had stunned Halkirk last month, beating them 2-1 at their own ground to close to within six points of the league leaders.
But Halkirk earned revenge at the weekend, winning 4-1 to move nine points ahead of third-placed Golspie.
Both Harkness and keeper Henry Oldbury started the fixture, having impressed in the North Caledonian league so far this season.

Wasana beat Tam Terris 10-8 in the quarter-final, with some accurate running shots making the difference.
She then went on to beat James Nicol, coming from behind to win 8-5.
In the final Wasana raced ahead with her accurate, drawing shots to the jack, and led 5-1 following the fifth end.
