KILLER whales surprised locals with a close encounter today (Friday), coming close to shore at North Ness in Lerwick.

People walking near to Mareel and the Shetland Museum and Archives were stunned when the whales appeared, surfacing near to the wall.

Mari Anderson shared the video below on Facebook, calling it an “absolutely unreal experience”.

She said it was “so, so special” to see the animals up close and personal, adding they were “literally at our feet”.
