News / High winds set to affect NorthLink and inter-island ferry sailings
FORECASTED high winds for today (Saturday) and Sunday are set to affect NorthLink’s ferry sailings.
The Hrossey will leave Lerwick at 5.30pm tonight, instead of 7pm, and could be delayed arriving in to Aberdeen tomorrow.
The Hjaltland is sailing from Aberdeen at 5pm, and her arrival into Kirkwall tonight could also be delayed by up to an hour-and-a-half, NorthLink said.
Tomorrow’s Hjaltland sailing from Lerwick to Aberdeen will also depart an hour earlier, at 6pm.
The ferry operator said her arrival in to Aberdeen could be delayed by up to two hours on Monday morning also.
Warnings are also in place that the inter-island ferry network could be affected by the high winds later today.
The Yell and Bluemull Sound routes are currently running to the published timetables, but Shetland Islands Council’s ferries department has said there is the possibility of disruption to both as winds increase.
Loganair flights have also been severely disrupted by the weather, with services between Sumburgh and Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow all cancelled today.
