Weather / Some schools stay closed due to winter weather

AITH Junior High School and the primary schools at Happyhansel, Whiteness and Tingwall will be closed today (Tuesday) due to the current road conditions and the forecast for more snow and low temperatures.

North Roe Primary School will also be closed due to problems with the school’s heating system.

Other schools might follow during the morning.

The council said this morning that overnight snowfall has made road conditions difficult in some areas particularly at the Westside.

Brae High School has alerted parents via its Facebook page that there will be no school transport from Eshaness, Hillswick, North Roe and Sullom due to the road conditions.

The school itself will stay open but parents are advised to assess local conditions before deciding whether it is safe to travel.

The SIC added that there will be no school transport through Lower Gulberwick for pupils at Anderson High School and Sound Primary School.

West Mainland school buses operated by K&K Transport are not running today.

The latest school bus information is available on the School Transport Voicebank at 01595 745743 and parents are asked to check this for the latest updates.

Up to date weather and transport information can also be found at www.shetnews.co.uk

There is a yellow Met Office weather warning for snow and ice in place until Wednesday morning.
