Community / New York library book…returned to Lerwick
SHETLAND is well used to hosting visitors from across the globe, offering a warm welcome.
But the team at Shetland Library were surprised last week to find an interloper from New York in its book returns box.
A Bedtime For Peppa children’s book, originally owned by the New York Public Library, was handed into the Lerwick library.
With the book no longer in the New York Public Library system, the Peppa Pig tome is set to stay in Shetland.
A spokesperson for the New York Public Library said: “It is clear that Peppa missed the UK and found her way back home for a visit – Scotland being a wonderful train ride away from England while New York is quite further.
“We hope she and the person who checked the book out enjoyed their travels.”
Catherine Jeromson, team leader for reader services at the Shetland Library, responded: “We’re unsure of who deposited the book into our outdoor book returns bin, but there is one thing for certain – after the lengthy distance she has travelled, it must be Bedtime for Peppa!”
Jeromson added that she was naturally disappointed that the New York Public Library did not want her to return it in person with a trip across the pond.
