Council / People invited to have their say on proposals for 20mph limit in Scalloway

PROPOSALS to introduce a 20mph speed limit in Scalloway and on residential roads along East Voe will go on display at a public meeting next week.

Staff from the council’s roads service will be at the Scalloway Hall from 3pm to 7.30pm on Monday (11 November).

Local residents and road users are invited to attend this drop-in session to view and comment on the proposals.

Similar meetings have already been held in Lerwick about introducing more 20mph zones in the town.

Scalloway community councillor Mark Burgess previously said the subject of lowering speed limits in the village has “long been a source of debate”.

Speaking last month he added: “Much of the village is self-restricting due to the historic layout of roads, footpaths and buildings but that does not in itself wholly prevent excessive speed.”

It comes as part of a Scotland-wide move to continue the roll out of 20mph limits in built-up areas.
