Energy / Investigations into damage to Viking turbine blade
INVESTIGATIONS are underway after a Viking Energy wind farm turbine blade became damaged.
A photo circulating on social media appears to show some material hanging down off the blade.
Wind farm operator SSE Renewables confirmed it is aware of the damage, and is investigating the cause.
A spokesperson for the company said: “In line with our established safety procedures, the wind turbine has been disabled and access to the turbine and the surrounding area has been restricted and made safe.
“No one was injured or in the vicinity at the time the damage was sustained.
“We are working closely with the turbine manufacturer, Vestas, which has initiated an investigation into the cause of the incident.”
The 103-turbine wind farm went live earlier this year.
