SHETLAND is well represented in the nominations for this year’s Scots Trad Music Awards.

Fiddler Ross Couper and his band are up for the album of the year prize with their record The Homeroad.

Haltadans are nominated in the Scottish folk band of the year category, while Calum Nicolson is up for the Scottish dance band award.

Amy Laurenson – who previously won BBC Radio Scotland’s young traditional musician award – is shortlisted in the up and coming artist section.

Laura Harrington, who spent many years in Shetland as a youngster, is nominated in the industry person of the year award. People can read more about her career here.

The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards will take place at Inverness Leisure Centre on Saturday 30 November, with the ceremony broadcast on BBC ALBA from 9pm.

Many of the awards are voted on by the public online.
