Council / Former Scatsta Airport buildings available for lease

THE FORMER airport buildings at Scatsta are being offered up for lease by Shetland Islands Council (SIC).

This includes two helicopter hangars, the ex-airport terminal building and the fire station.

The council is inviting rent offers of more than £350,000 per annum for the entire 10.3 hectare site, with an “anchor tenant” being mooted.

But the SIC is warning that future use of the buildings must be compatible with both current use of neighbouring land and proposals for its development.

There are proposals for a potential hydrogen production plant on nearby land. Existing uses for neighbouring land include a quarry and farming.

One of the helicopter hangars measures 80 metres by 41 metres, with the other smaller at 47 metres by 31 metres. The fire station building is roughly 25 metres by 17 metres.

The closing date for lease offers is 2pm on 21 November.

Scatsta Airport closed in 2020 after the contract to run oil and gas flights moved to Sumburgh, leading to a number of job losses.
