News / Ex-councillor and SIC official to head up CAB board
A FORMER councillor and senior SIC official are the new chair and vice-chair of Shetland Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).
George Smith, who was councillor for Shetland South between 2012 and 2022, took over as CAB chairman at its August annual general meeting (AGM).
And Denise Bell, who recently retired from her role as Shetland Islands Council’s human resources manager, has accepted the role as CAB’s vice-chairwoman.
Smith steps into the role as he prepares to leave the Shetland Football Association, where he has been president since 2021.
He said the two were not related, and that he had decided to leave the football association long before becoming chairman of CAB.
CAB’s local manager Della Armstrong said she was “delighted” that Smith had agreed to accept the position of chairman.
“George brings with him a wealth of experience, and is ably supported by Denise Bell in her new position as vice chair,” she said.
“Both George and Denise are incredible talents, and are superb additions to our multi skilled board.
“Given these challenging times, with the ongoing cost of living crisis, we very much welcome expressions of interest from anyone who, as a volunteer member of our board, would like to input into the strategic direction of Shetland Citizens Advice Bureau.”
