THE SOUTH Mainland Jarl’s Squad are set to take over Stromness in Orkney at the weekend.

Leigh Smith will lead his squad through the streets of Stromness on Saturday night for a torchlit procession as part of their ORKtoberfest celebrations.

The SMUHA guizers will be led by the Stromness pipe band and will even burn a “peedie galley” at the end of the procession.

There will be an opportunity for folk to snap a selfie with the Vikings and their galley on Saturday afternoon, and visitors and locals can also take part in the procession by purchasing a candle torch for £10, with the funds going towards Clan Cancer Support.

Smith and his squad will then visit the Ferry Inn at night, where there will be a toast to the Guizer Jarl before live music finishes off the night.

The Vikings will then be put through their paces on the Sunday, with a series of games taking place – including the Orkney arm wrestling championships and a speed nailing competition.
