News / CCTV cameras sought to stop ‘numerous’ break-ins at former Anderson school
“NUMEROUS” break-ins at the old Anderson High School have led Shetland Islands Council (SIC) to seek to install six CCTV cameras outside the building.
The SIC has applied for listed building consent to install six cameras on the exterior walls of the Anderson Institute building.
It said there had been “numerous issues with ongoing vandalism and break-ins”, which have resulted in damage to the fabric, fixtures and fittings inside.
“In order to deter future vandalism and break-ins to the Anderson Institute Building it is proposed to install a CCTV system,” the council said.
Verkada CP52-E cameras have been selected by the council for the outside of the former school, with the company saying the cameras are protected from direct hits by “vandals, hail and flying debris” in windy locations.
The cameras, which start at a price of $3,699 according to Verkada, can send alerts for motion detection or “person of interest” detection.
