Business / The Lounge expected to reopen next month

The Lounge pub in Lerwick.

A LANDMARK Lerwick pub is expected to reopen in November under new ownership, it is understood.

The sale process, which has been underway for a few weeks, is said to be going through the legal formalities.

The bar, which has been on the market for around a year, has been shut over the last week or so as a result of staff shortages.

But it is understood the Lounge is not facing a permanent closure. Instead it is anticipated it will reopen under new ownership in November.

Shetland News has confirmed this with both the prospective purchaser and the current owner.

The prospective buyer, who does not wish to be named at this stage, said they felt the Lounge was an important feature of the centre of Lerwick.

The bar, on Mounthooly Street, is well known for its links to the local music scene, especially as a host of traditional sessions.
