Community / ‘A real honour’: Grains delighted to accept deputy lieutenant role
LERWICK Port Authority’s chief executive has been appointed to the role of deputy lieutenant for Shetland.
Calum Grains said it was “a real honour and privilege” to accept the ceremonial position, which will see him support lord lieutenant Lindsay Tulloch in his role.
Grains said he was “looking forward to supporting” Tulloch alongside three other deputy lieutenants and one vice lieutenant.
Tulloch replaced the outgoing Bobby Hunter earlier this year, after Hunter stepped down following 13 years of service in the honorary position.
The appointment of Grains takes Shetland up to four deputy lieutenants, following the appointment of Voluntary Action Shetland chief Lynn Tulloch in June.
Former councillor Elizabeth Fullerton OBE has been in the role for more than 20 years, having joined in June 2002, and was formerly the chairwoman of NHS Shetland’s board.
She was awarded an OBE for her contribution to the NHS.
Elizabeth Johnson MBE joined as a deputy lieutenant in November 2022, having been the business development manager for Unst’s Pure Energy Centre since 2006.
Johnson was given an MBE in 2015 for her contribution to the renewables industry, as well as her charity fundraising work.
Former deputy lieutenant Iain Tulloch was appointed vice lieutenant in August, having served more than 20 years as deputy.
The former port controller retired in April 2020 after 12 years at Lerwick Port Authority, where he also served as a board member.
