Court / Bixter man banned after crash

A THIRTY two year old man from Bixter has been fined and disqualified after admitting driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Driving after drinking in Scalloway Boating Club, Paul Forrest’s car came off the road on the A970 main road in the evening of 14 January.

Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Thursday that police were initially unable to locate Forrest as he was walking to Lerwick.

No alcohol reading was provided, but Forrest admitted to driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Defence solicitor Liam Mcallister described his client’s decision making on the night in question as “disastrous”, adding that it has had a great impact on his personal life.

He said Forrest, of Semblister, has lost his employment as a fisherman as a result of his offending.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank fined him £800 and banned him from the road for 21 months.

Forrest can reduce the period of disqualification by a quarter if he successfully completes the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course.
