News / More disruption on Bluemull Sound ferry service

The Bluemull Sound ferry route will be disrupted again today (Friday), with all bookings suspended.

It is running on a single vessel to a Saturday timetable following further problems with the Geira.

The Yell service was also initially running to a shift timetable with a single vessel due to crew sickness.

However, it will now return to a two ferry service from 8.45am.

Shetland Islands Council said bookings would also be available from 9.15am.

The further disruption on the Bluemull route comes after a fault on the Geira – which was expected to be fixed – returned last night.

The SIC said on Thursday night that the Geira had been repaired, and it would be returning on Friday to a normal service.

But just over an hour later, the SIC said the fault had returned after initially successful sea trials.

The Bluemull service has run with a single vessel every day this week.
