Arts / Multi-instrumentalist Rachel Baiman returns for two concerts
ACCLAIMED American multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Rachel Baiman is returning to Shetland to perform this autumn.
Baiman, originally from Illinois and now based in East Nashville, will be accompanied by guitarist and singer-songwriter Dan Abrahams, who will also open her shows at The Dowry in Lerwick on Sunday 6 and Monday 7 October.
She previously drew an audience of over 200 at Mareel for a Covid-delayed show that took place in March 2023.
A Shetland News review by Caroline Mackenzie praised the guitarist, fiddler and banjo player’s musicianship and her “crystal-clear voice and gorgeous harmonies”.
That tour was in support of her highly rated album Common Nation of Sorrow, which Baiman has followed with a batch of collaborative recordings with fellow purveyors of Americana including Caroline Spence and Nicholas Jamerson.
She is relishing the prospect of returning to the islands after thoroughly enjoying her previous visit.
“After landing in Shetland for the first time, my bandmate and I were hoping that our plane would be cancelled so that we could have an extra day to soak in the beauty and calm of the place,” Baiman said..
“Now I get my wish for a return trip, with not one but two shows! I’ve been releasing a batch of collaborative recordings this year, and I look forward to playing some of those new songs in my set, as well as having the great Dan Abrahams join me on guitar.”
Local promoters Ragged Wood said Baiman is “as gifted as any musician we’ve have been able to attract since we started out in 2011, and we would urge anyone who enjoys modern folk, country and Americana to come and see one of her shows”.
Tickets to see Rachel Baiman & Dan Abrahams are available from The Little Box Office priced £22 (£16 concessions).
