Community / Shetland Pride set to host drag cabaret night at Mareel
Local drag queen Victoria Pier said the night would be ‘memorable with lots of laughter’.
SHETLAND Pride will bring glitz and glamour to Mareel on Saturday (21 September) for a night of drag performances and cabaret.
Local drag queen Victoria Pier will perform a variety of hits, alongside Lily Minogue – who has performed at every Shetland Pride festival.
Minogue said: “Coming to Shetland is a highlight of my year.
“I’ve grown to love coming up, and can’t wait to hit the stage in Mareel with Victoria and give Shetland a little camp madness.”
She also highlighted how “exciting and welcoming” the Shetland audience has been for her every time.
They plan to perform hits from Beyonce, Britney, and Kylie Minogue, with cabaret performances from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Grease to keep the audience entertained.
Victoria Pier said: “I’m really excited for the show.
“Lily and I have been working together to come up with a fun set list, with some new numbers and new looks. I can’t wait to perform at Mareel again, it’s such an amazing setting.”
Shetland Pride chairperson Gary Mouat said: “This is a classy affair, there’ll be sit down tables for people to enjoy the show and have a drink – and there just might be some audience participation from the performers too.”
Shetland Pride hosted their first event in 2022 and have now held three successful Pride festivals.
The charity aims to hold more LGBTQ+ events across Shetland, including a volunteer party to thank everyone who has donated time to putting on the Pride events.
Mouat added: “During our Pride events we always get people saying they’d love to have more LGBTQ+ nights throughout the year. So, it was our top priority to start offering that to the Shetland community.”
Tickets are priced £25 per person or £125 per table, and are available through Shetland Arts here.
