A POPULAR Lerwick café serving a slice of Japan is set to pack up and move to Glasgow.

The owners of Showa Coffee House on Commercial Road announced on Monday they would be moving away after just over a year in business.

Terence Tsao and Emilu Hasegawa moved to the isles from Portsmouth last year, with Showa opening to the public in August 2023.

It became a popular stop for its Japanese bakes, pancakes and coffees.

However, the couple said they have made the “tough decision” to shut its doors for the final time at the end of October and move the business to Glasgow.

“We want you to know this wasn’t an easy decision,” the pair said in a post on Facebook.

“Leaving the warmth of Shetland and all of you amazing people is hard, but sometimes new adventures call.

“You’ve made Showa Coffee House more than just a place – you’ve made it a community.

“And for that, we’ll always be grateful. Shetland will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
