Emergency services / Lifeboat called to aid yacht into berth
THE LERWICK lifeboat assisted a small yacht with steering problems into the harbour on Wednesday night.
The boat was launched after the French-registered vessel, with three adults on board, began to lose steering as she approached Lerwick.
She had sailed in from Bergen earlier in the day.
The local 10-metre Excalibur responded to a radio call for assistance, taking the yacht under tow near the Knab and bringing her to Victoria Pier.
Lerwick lifeboat was then launched just after 8pm at the request of the Coastguard to bring the yacht alongside a pontoon.
Coxswain Stephen Manson said it was “a straightforward task” for the lifeboat and her crew.
“Our thanks to the skipper of the local vessel who took up the initial tow, to bring the yacht close to Victoria Pier.”
