Transport / Bluemull and Yell ferry services to reduce to single vessel on Friday

BOTH the Bluemull Sound and Yell Sound ferry services will operate with a single vessel on Friday (13 September).

The Bluemull service will run to a Saturday timetable, with all bookings suspended. However the council has confirmed that a normal service will resume from 2pm.

Yell Sound will operate with a single vessel on a shuttle timetable, with bookings suspended, from 7.10am.

The 6.15am, 6.40am and 7.05am runs will sail as timetabled with bookings.

Normal service will bookings will resume at 5.35pm.

On Saturday there was set to be no sailings on Yell Sound after 6.55pm but the SIC has since confirmed the normal timetable will now be in place.

Yell Sound had also run to a single vessel on Wednesday (11 September).

A Shetland Islands Council spokesperson said the Bluemull ferry Bigga was due to return from refit today (Thursday) but this has been delayed due weather.

The hope is that she will hopefully travel from Fraserburgh to Lerwick on Friday.

“The engineer who should be on shift on Bluemull tomorrow is taking MV Bigga back from Fraserburgh and there is no other certificated cover available,” the spokesperson added.

“MV Bigga will remain in Lerwick till Monday to allow some final docking work to be done. All being in order she will then return to service on Bluemull Sound on Monday afternoon.

“The Geira crew will do the Bluemull day shifts on Friday and Saturday.”
