Energy / Massive Pioneering Spirit arrives for Dales Voe delivery
THE WORLD’S largest offshore construction vessel has returned to Lerwick for her third stay in four years.
Pioneering Spirit arrived on Monday to offload a cargo of materials from a North Sea oilfield to Lerwick Port Authority’s (LPA) Dales Voe base.
She will then spend several days remobilising for her next project.
Operated by Allseas, the 382-metre long and 124-metre wide vessel is designed to support decommissioning and installation projects in the energy industries.
She first arrived in Lerwick in August 2020, her maiden call at a UK port, and delivered the 14,200 tonne Ninian Northern platform topsides.
Pioneering Spirit then returned in April 2022 with the field’s 8,500 tonne support jacket.
LPA said her visits reinforced Lerwick’s reputation as “a leader in decommissioning and recycling offshore structures”.
In contrast, at the other end of Lerwick on Monday was the historic sail training vessel Sorlandet.
