Community / Recovery walk held in Lerwick
THIS YEAR’s Recovery Walk took to the streets of Lerwick earlier today (Saturday) in fine weather.
It is one of a series of local events designed to mark Recovery Month, which aims to celebrate and support recovery in all of its forms.
The walk started at Pitt Lane’s Shetland Recovery Hub & Community Network, which offers support for people affected by substance use.
The walk is designed to honour those lost through the use of alcohol and other drugs, to celebrate the gains made by those in recovery and to build connections and develop support networks.
Shetland Recovery Hub & Community Network manager Amanda Pearson said recently that a key part of Recovery Month is tackling stigma.
She said recovery means “something different to everybody”.
“For some people recovery means abstinence, and for other people it means being in control of their substance use rather their substance use being in control of them,” Pearson added.
“Or a family could be recovered from the loss of somebody.”
More information on the Shetland Recovery Hub and Community Network can be found here.
Meanwhile anyone looking for support locally is also encouraged to visit the Shetland Alcohol and Drug Partnership website.
