Court / Man ordered to leave Shetland after being released on bail
A MAN has been ordered to leave Shetland for the time being after appearing at Lerwick Sheriff Court from custody on Wednesday.
Charlie Forsyth, 20, of South Shields, appeared in the dock charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on Lerwick’s Esplanade, Gilbert Bain Hospital and police station on Tuesday (27 August).
Included in the charge were accusations of shouting and swearing, spitting at the windows in a cell and uttering threats of violence.
Forsyth was also charged with assaulting a police constable at the hospital on the same day by attempting to strike him on the body and kick him on the body.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail on the condition that he leaves Shetland before midnight on 29 August, and can only return for court appearances or legal consultation.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank also sought assurances that Forsyth would be able to pay for transport to Shetland.
He said “time and time again” people are released on bail but warrants have to be issued to get them back to court. Defence agent Gregor Kelly said he was confident his client would return to Shetland for his next appearance.
He was given a trial date of 28 November.
