Entertainment / Donald Anderson Band to launch new album at Hymhus
IT IS No Time for Turning Back for four of Shetland’s most seasoned musicians as they prepare to officially launch their second CD at Bigton’s Hymhus on Saturday.
Most of the eleven new songs penned and produced by the Donald Anderson Band got their first public airing during a well-received concert in the Lerwick Legion on Friday night, part of the hugely successful Rising North festival.
And they certainly got the stamp of approval from no other than local music guru Davie Gardner, and who wants to argue with that?
He wrote: “The Donald Anderson Band – keeping alive the writing of proper, original songs, and here almost the elder statesmen of this particular festival – give us virtually the whole of their excellent new, yet to be released album No Time for Turning Back opening with the faintly Dylanesque track Survivor.”
A digital single One More Twist of the Knife had already been released in July and is available for download on the usual platforms.
The record is the second album from the contemporary rock band from Bigton following on from their debut album In Passing which was released in 2011.
The band comprises of music veterans Ian Barrie on drums and percussion, Alan McKay on electric and acoustic guitar and vocals, Rick Nickerson on electric bass and vocals and Donald Anderson on electric and acoustic guitar, as well as vocals.
A number of musical guests provide additional flavour: Grace Anderson on vocals, Kirsten Hendry on fiddle, Chris Thomson on keyboards and Steve Davidson on mandolin and boha.

London based Nick Hann appears on soprano sax and Irene Balestrieri from Italy contributed to the album on the grand piano.
Recorded at Mareel with Tim Matthew and mastered by Andrew Tulloch at the Blue Studio in London, it was local artist Jono Sandilands who created the album sleeve.
The album launch party will get under way at 9pm on Saturday (24 August), with donations for the Bigton Collective at the door.
