Letters / Research participants wanted
Around a month and half ago, I put out a call for participants for my psychology dissertation project here on Shetland News. I was blown away by the response and am immensely grateful – thank you so much!
I’m back again, needing to recruit a few more participants.
As explained previously, I’m conducting a study which looks how where we live affects how we see the world – specifically, how the urbanisation of our environment affects how we visually process scenes.
I’m currently recruiting participants from Shetland to complete a survey for this study. It takes less than ten minutes and involves questions about where you live, your relationship with nature, and a short shape-matching task.
Participants can enter a prize draw to win a £50 Amazon voucher!
Participation is anonymous and the survey must be completed on a desktop computer or laptop.
This research is based on that of my supervisor, who found differences between how people from an isolated tribe in Northern Namibia and people from western cities process visual scenes. I was curious as to how these differences might carry over to people from more rural and isolated western communities.
My partner and his family have a house in Roesound, near Reawick, family members who have lived here for decades, and I have visited Shetland regularly over the past seven years, so I thought it would be ideal to recruit Shetland residents to participate in the study.
If you’re over 18 and live in Shetland, please consider participating by going to: www.bit.ly/shetlandstudy

Thank you!
