Business / TSB pop-up service to be located in Mareel
THE TSB bank will open a pop-up service in arts venue Mareel three days a week once its Lerwick branch closes next month, it has been confirmed.
A spokesperson for the bank said the pop-up will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week.
The Lerwick branch is set to close on 10 September.
Earlier this year TSB announced the closure of a number of buildings across the country due to the decreasing number of people using its branches.
It said across its network more than 95 per cent of transactions are now being made using mobile, online and other ways to bank, instead of in branches.
The TSB said transactions in the Lerwick branch have fallen by 45 per cent over the last four years.
The bank offers pop-up services elsewhere in the country, including Orkney.
A spokesperson previously said pop-ups can offer customers support with “most of their branch banking needs like getting advice on how to manage money, making payments, getting help with products and services, and assistance with bereavements or power of attorney”.
They said for cash withdrawals, deposits or cheque payments, people will still be able to use the Post Office or an ATM.
It is not the first time a service unconnected to the arts has used space in Mareel – the DVSA uses the venue for holding theory tests.
