Repairs are being carried out this afternoon (Monday) on a burst water main on South Road in Lerwick.

Parts of the town are without water at the moment.

Meanwhile, the South Road is currently closed to traffic with the Oversund roundabout partially under water. A diversion is in place through Oversund Road.

Area manager for Scottish Water, Jim Anderson, said engineers were working on fixing the fault.

At 7pm Scottish Water said in an update posted on the company’s website: “We are currently repairing as 12”burst water main at Upper Sound, causing interruption to the water supply for approx 40 properties in Upper Sound and Baila.

“The estimated completion time for the repair is 00:00hrs. We expect to complete the repair in a timeframe which means we do not plan to provide bottled water.

“The water supply will gradually return to normal for customers once the repair has been completed.”
