THE WORLD’s strongest brothers – Tom and Luke Stoltman – headed to Shetland last weekend to spread the message of looking after yourself and others – at home, at work or in the gym.

The Stoltman brothers – three-time world’s strongest man Tom and two-time Europe’s strongest man Luke – were invited to spend the weekend in Shetland by SSEN Transmission.

They met with Shetland Rugby Club and Shetland Weight Training Club, had a meet and greet with SSEN Transmission workers, attended the Sandwick fun day and also took a dip in the sea at St Ninian’s.

The pair said they were delighted to visit Shetland, with Tom Stoltman saying they met “such a friendly and supportive community”.

SSEN Transmission’s community liaison manager Thea Groat added: “At the beginning of the year I had the crazy idea to try and get The World’s Strongest Man and Europe’s Strongest Man, Luke and Tom Stoltman, up to Shetland to carry out a health, safety and wellbeing talk to the site team working on our Kergord to Gremista project.

“Given their line of work and their amazing story to get to where they are now, I thought they’d be brilliant to hear from for both our site staff but also for various sports clubs in Shetland – so I was thrilled when they accepted our invitation to join us.”

A LOCAL pop-punk covers band is set to undertake the unusual feat of performing an entire album in full to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The 3310 will perform Green Day’s American Idiot album from start to finish at the Gulberwick Hall on Saturday 21 September, before ending the night with a set of pop-punk covers from other acts such as Blink-182, Sum 41 and Bowling For Soup.

Vocalist and guitarist Isaac Webb said: “We’re doing this show to celebrate, arguably, one of the largest rock records of the 21st century.

“The album made such a massive impact on me personally and still continues to do so after all these years.”

Providing support at the Gulberwick gig will be No Half, who play modern rock, metal and pop covers – everything from System of a Down and Foo Fighters to Taylor Swift.

The gig is for ages 18 and over. Tickets are available online, but they are already limited.

NEW rules have been put in place for treatments of imported sheep.

The Sheep Scab (Shetland Islands) Order 2024 came into operation last month, meaning that imported sheep can be plunge dipped to treat sheep scab.

Dipping is now considered especially important with the mites which cause the disease becoming increasingly resistant to the injectable product used previously to treat sheep scab.

The level of risk to Shetland of sheep scab has also increased, with more notifications to the Scottish Government of sheep scab in areas where Shetland farmers and crofters often source stock from: Aberdeenshire, Caithness and Orkney.

Hilary Burgess, veterinary advisor to Shetland Islands Council, said: “Local crofters and farmers have done a great job at working together to make sure that sheep scab did not enter Shetland flocks before this change.”

“Last year 94% of all sheep imported to Shetland were dipped and 98.6% of imported rams being dipped before or on arrival to Shetland. These are amazing figures for a voluntary dipping scheme, which demonstrates the high level of support for sheep dipping in Shetland.”
