Community / Levenwick ‘gathering’ to raise money for three Gaza families
A “GATHERING for Gaza” is taking place this weekend in Levenwick to fundraise for families in need in the region.
On offer at the event will be a half-hour yoga session, a sea swim and warm drinks at the beach – while refreshments will be available at the Levenwick Hall afterwards.
The gathering, organised by Louise Thomason in collaboration with Palestinian Solidarity Shetland, is taking place from 11am on Sunday (28 July). Folk can pay £20 to attend, and participation in each part is optional.
She said all money raised will go to three families in Gaza who she is directly in contact with.
More information on the families which will benefit from funds raised can be found on the online ticket page here.
Thomason added that right now people in Gaza cannot evacuate without paying high fees.
“With the Rafah border currently closed, and no way to work and rising costs in Gaza, money is also being used for food and necessities until the border opens,” she said.
Children are welcome to attend but do not need to buy a ticket, with a craft corner arranged for bairns in the hall.
