Council / Tourist office put up for sale or lease
THE TOURIST Office building in the centre of Lerwick has now been put up for sale or lease by owner Shetland Islands Council.
The council is inviting offers over £200,000 for its sale, or offers over £20,000 per annum for a lease.
It comes as VisitScotland is set to leave the building in November as part of a nationwide closure of its iCentres.
Shetland Tourism Association has already indicated its interest in taking on the building.
Recent figures showed that the Lerwick office had the highest income of all iCentres in Scotland 2023/24 after Edinburgh.
VisitScotland’s move to close its office in Shetland has been met with great disappointment locally.
The organisation said nationally most visitors now plan all aspects of their holiday before they leave home, gaining inspiration from online sources or tour operators and travel agents.
The closing date for the SIC’s sale or lease is 2pm on 15 August.
The building, located at the Market Cross, includes the tourist office space on the ground floor and offices on the first floor.
