Housing / SIC looking to sell number of house sites in Burra
SHETLAND Islands Council is planning to selling off nine house sites in Burra.
The local authority hopes to secure planning permission in principle for the sites – on land the council owns – before selling the plots.
It hopes that it could help to address demand for housing in the area.
Five house sites are proposed near to the cattle grid at Ludi – west of the straight piece of road which leads towards Toogs.
The other house sites would be in Hamnavoe. Two would be located west of Gudda Taing, and another two would be north of Highmount.
Each of the three planning applications also involve creating access road.
A spokesperson for Shetland Islands Council said: “As landowner, we have worked jointly with the Burra Grazings Committee to make available some house sites with outline planning permission in Burra.
“We have identified a cluster of sites in Ludi and Hamnavoe which will have minimal impact on the common grazings.
“We are hopeful that the sites will receive outline planning and then they will be advertised for sale.”
The SIC said it understands there have been requests for suitable sites in the past.
“Assuming outline planning permission can be obtained, house sites will be sold at market value,” the spokesperson said.
