Letters / Speaking up for our communities

A very warm thank you to everyone who took the time and trouble to vote in last Thursday’s election, and particularly to those who put their trust in me again to serve as their MP.

To represent Orkney and Shetland in Parliament is an enormous privilege. It is not something that I shall ever take for granted.

Beyond that I am enormously thankful to my campaign team including local party members, those who joined in the campaign from other parts of the country, and of course the many local people who helped in other ways big and small. It took the work of many, from knocking doors to sending letters to simply taking window posters to show your support – but it is all appreciated.

My first priority is and always has been to speak up for our communities on the national stage and to be available to help local people whenever they need it, and that remains my promise to people in the isles.

Whichever way you voted – and indeed whether or not you voted – if you are in need of help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Alistair Carmichael MP
