Arts / Youth event planned for Rising North festival
THE SHETLAND Young Promoters Group (SYPG) is teaming up with the new Rising North music festival to host a youth gig as part of the event.
The group, led by youths, will host five local bands at a free gig at Mareel in Lerwick on Friday 16 August.
They are 8 Ball Jacuzzi, Vagabond, Thick as Thieves, Zumba Crisis and Khmer Rouge.
The gig will be open for all ages, but is aimed at under 18s.
SYPG is a group, launched in 2009, which organise events for young people, such as music gigs showcasing local talent. This includes the Battle of the Bands event.
A representative said the group is “exuberantly passionate about making the arts scene more accessible for young people to attend, and give young bands more opportunities to play”.
The Rising North festival is being held for the first time on 16 and 17 August.
The main event at the Clickimin on 17 August is already sold out, but there will be free entry events dotted around Lerwick the night before.
Most of these are in the town’s pubs, but the SYPG show will give younger people the chance to get involved.
The gig will take place between 7pm and 10.30pm.
The daytime part of the main Clickimin event on 17 August is open to all ages but the evening concert there is for over 16s only.
