In Pictures / Friendship and fun as bikers’ rally returns
HUNDREDS of bikers are descending on Shetland for what is the 40th Simmer Dim Rally.
Motorcyclists from as far as the Netherlands have made the trip, with around 280 in total coming from outside Shetland.
One hundred local bikers will also be attending the Ollaberry event, which is taking place through to the weekend.
Aimée Sutherland, who is involved in the invites and bookings for the event, said the age range of attendees is 16 to 82.
She herself has been attending the rally, a private event for bikers, since around 1993.
The centrepiece is the marquee, which will host live music, a bar and plenty of fun and games – whilst the nearby Ollaberry Hall is open too, with campsites dotted around for folk to get a bit of rest.
When asked what makes the four-decade old event special, Sutherland said it comes down to the people.
“There’s folk that’s been coming back for years – I think it’s just meeting them,” Sutherland said.
“It’s lifelong friends you’ve made at the rally, and catching up with them. It’s a very friendly rally.”
