Community / Shetland’s third Pride Festival under way

SHETLAND Pride, the isles’ annual festival celebrating equality, diversity and tolerance kicked off with a loud and colourful parade from Lerwick’s Market Cross to the Gilbertson Park on Saturday morning.

Here are some first impressions, a full account of today’s event will follow later in a separate story.

Some of the candidates campaigning to become Orkney and Shetland MP were among the crowds. Here Alistair Carmichael of the Lib Dems is closely followed by the SNP’s Robert Leslie. Meanwhile – not in the picture – Green candidate Alex Armitage was beating the drums.
