Health / Self-referral for physiotherapy reopens
NHS Shetland’s physiotherapy department is now accepting self-referrals for its service.
Forms can be found online, while there will be paper copies at health centres, local pharmacies and the Shetland Library in Lerwick.
Anyone already on the waiting list does not need to refer themselves again, and they will be contacted when they reach the top of the list.
Self-referral was previously established in NHS Shetland but was paused through the Covid pandemic.
People can self-refer to any area of physiotherapy, which includes the outpatient, community and children and young people teams.
This means people do not have to see a GP or ANP before seeing a physio.
All referrals will be looked at by a physiotherapist and then added to the waiting list.
NHS Shetland said if someone’s condition would be better suited to another profession, the team will get in touch and let them know.
