Politics / First minister visit called off due to plane being unable to land at airport
FIRST minister John Swinney has been unable to make his way to Shetland today (Friday) as a result of fog at Sumburgh Airport.
The SNP leader had been due to undertake a number of visits today while announcing funding for islands.
But his flight from Edinburgh was unable to land this morning despite circling a number of times.
A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “Due to the weather in Shetland the plane carrying the first minister was unable to land.
“He looks forward to visiting Shetland in the near future.”
The proposed visit would have come only a few weeks after Swinney was sworn in as first minister following the resignation of Humza Yousaf.
It would have also come just days after a UK election was announced by prime minister Rishi Sunak.
