Council / Graduates sought for council development programme
A NEW development programme has been launched by Shetland Islands Council to recruit eight recent graduates to support a range of projects.
The council said the programme offers an opportunity for graduates to work across the organisation, carrying out research and activities to support wider project teams.
Those on the two-year skills development programme would be supported by a mentor from the leadership team and be given the chance to gain on-the-job training and project management qualifications.
After completion of the two-year programme, they will be supported to transfer into a suitable vacancy with the council.
It comes against significant workforce challenges experienced by the council in both recruitment and retention, leading to a high number of vacancies.
Anyone considering applying for one of these graduate posts must have an honours degree or postgraduate degree, achieved within the last three years.
The closing date for applications is 9 June, with posts due to start in September.
Human resources manager Ingrid Smith said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for eight new graduates to be closely involved in various projects across the council and to start on a path as future leaders in our organisation.”
