Health / MRI scanner to be delivered to hospital on Monday
SHETLAND’s new MRI scanner is due to be delivered to the Gilbert Bain Hospital site on Monday (6 May), NHS Shetland has confirmed.
The health board said in order for work to be carried out, it is closing the west end of the car park from Sunday evening (5 May) until lifting works are completed on Tuesday.
Emergency access for ambulances will be maintained throughout.
There may be some minor delays while vehicles safely enter and exit the car park via Cairnfield Road.
NHS Shetland said public parking is available on South Lochside and at Gilbertson Park.
The health board added: “If you are parking on the streets close to the hospital, we kindly ask you not to block any accesses or park in restricted areas.”
Almost £2 million was raised through the Shetland MRI scanner appeal, with the total cost of bringing the new facility to Shetland and housing it in the Gilbert Bain Hospital costing around £3.5 million.
In February parts for the building which will house the scanner arrived on site.
