Letters / If you don’t ask you will not get it
Your piece on the SIC’s deputy leader’s comments – at this week’s very important full SIC meeting – on pursuing additional powers would indeed be challenging and would be true if they would only try to at least explore increased freedoms and flexibilities as per their own policy of September 2020.
Another, but very important, can kicked down the road and in danger of missing vital opportunities to deal with major local concerns, opportunities and indeed threats.
In a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) the current inherent weakness only seems to be the lack of visionary, bold leadership.
Of course, it may well be that both capability and ability to pursue the necessary additions, even if incremental and quite small steps, are what is lacking compared to the Zetland County Councils of 1965 to 78!
If you don’t ask, you’ll never get. With a general election looming, there has never been a better time to be politically assertive.
