Nature / Shetland gannet image wins top prize at world nature photography awards
A PHOTO of gannets underwater in Shetland has scooped the top prize at this year’s World Nature Photography Awards.
The image, taken by Tracey Lund, shows the birds going after a fish. The top award comes with a $1,000 cash prize.
Speaking about the photo, Lund said it was “taken whilst on holiday in Shetland, sat on the side of a RIB”.
“The hired DSLR camera in the waterproof housing was attached to polecam system and lowered into the water,” the photographer said.
“Thousands of gannets were in the sky above us and then started to dive into the sea after locally-caught fish. An unbelievable spectacle to witness, let alone photograph. I took 1,800 images on that day but only had two that I could use.”
The first time a selection of winning images are available to buy online as wall art.
