Community / James tops Shetland’s baby name list for 2023

JAMES was the most popular baby name in Shetland last year, according to new data.

The name was used five times during the year.

The only other name on the list for Shetland was Leo, which was used three times.

National Records of Scotland’s annual data is broken down by council area but only provides the forenames given to three or more babies.

This also means that no girls names were used more than twice in Shetland last year.

Nationally, Luca has knocked Noah off the top of Scotland’s baby name chart.

For girls Isla has replaced Olivia as Scotland’s most popular name.

Some names which have grown in popularity across Scotland include Margot – perhaps referencing Barbie actress Margot Robbie – and Oakley and Mabel.
