Transport / NorthLink cancels another Hjaltland sailing for operational reasons

NORTHLINK has confirmed that dry dock delays are the reason behind cancellations with the Hjaltland – although the ferry is expected to return to service on Tuesday.

The ship, which is currently in Rosyth for dry dock, has had two sailings cancelled – a northbound trip tonight (Sunday) and Monday’s southbound.

The Hjaltland‘s next sailing will be a northbound trip from Aberdeen on Tuesday night.

The boat had been due to return to service on Sunday. After announcing Sunday’s cancellation, NorthLink had said the Hjaltland would depart Lerwick on Monday but the sailing was then called off.

Customer service director for Serco NorthLink Ferries Billy Robb said: “The MV Hjaltland’s return to service from dry dock has been delayed.

“Unfortunately this does mean that we’ve had to cancel tonight’s (Sunday 18 February) northbound sailing from Aberdeen to Lerwick and tomorrow’s (Monday 19 February) southbound service from Lerwick to Aberdeen.

“The Hjaltland is expected back in service as normal on Tuesday when she timetabled to sail north from Aberdeen. All customers booked to travel on the impacted sailings are being contacted by NorthLink to rearrange their travel accordingly.”
