The 39-year-old made no plea and was committed for further examination. He was remanded in custody and will next appear in court within eight days.

Earlier on Thursday police named the woman who died as Claire Leveque.

Police were called at around 5pm on Sunday to the Sandness area of Shetland following a report of a disturbance, and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
