Transport / Weather and tides impact on ferry service
SEPA issues flood warning
NORTHLINK’s restricted Northern Isles ferry service continues to be affected by the unsettled weather as well as tidal conditions at Aberdeen harbour.
This morning (Sunday), the southbound Hrossey was unable to enter Aberdeen harbour for three hours and only made it into port by 10 am.
Meanwhile, the ferry operator warns that due to continued adverse weather conditions tonight’s arrival at Kirkwall may be up to one hour late, while arrival at Lerwick on Monday morning could be as much as two hours behind schedule.
The second passenger vessel Hjaltland is in drydock and not operating.
The tidal and weather conditions also impact on the freight vessel services with Hellier departing earlier than scheduled today due to “tidal restrictions” at Aberdeen.
Meanwhile, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued a flood warning for Shetland, especially in the south of the islands.
SEPA said that due to a combination of high tides and strong wind, low lying and coastal areas could be affected by waves and spray.
